Trump – Death Penalty Coming for Drug Dealers
President Trump is backing the death penalty for high-intensity drug traffickers. This past Monday, the President rolled out his three-part plan to tackle the opioid epidemic that is crippling many parts of the nation. The White House Fact Sheet can be read HERE.
Inclusive of that plan, the White House plans to strengthen criminal penalties for dealing and trafficking in fentanyl and other opioids, empowering the Department of Justice to seek the death penalty against drug traffickers where appropriate under the current law.
Speaking to a crowd in New Hampshire at an event this past Monday, President Trump told the crowd “This isn’t about being nice anymore”. The President went on to say,
"These are terrible people, and we have to get tough on those people. We can have all the blue-ribbon committees we want. But if we don't get tough on the drug dealers, we're wasting our time -- just remember that, we're wasting our time -- and that toughness includes the death penalty."
The President also offered support to the opioid overdose antidote, Naloxone and calling for medication assisted substance abuse treatment programs. Many public health advocates have championed these initiatives in an effort to further curb the epidemic.
According to the CDC, the opioid epidemic claimed 64,000 lives in drug overdoses in 2016. President Trump has since declared the epidemic a public health emergency,
Approximately 3/4th’s of all drug overdose deaths are now caused by opioids. This is a class of drugs that includes prescription painkillers as well as Heroin and potent synthetic drugs like fentanyl and carfentanil.

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
