K2 Spice, is a synthetic compound which is chemically similar to THC. This drug produces effects similar to marijuana and is commonly purchased in head shops, tobacco retailers, or over the internet. K2 is normally rolled and smoked, though some users brew the leaves and make them into a tea. K2 will typically come in small plastic bags colored silver or gold and will often resemble potpourri. The synthetic cannabinoids users smoke to get high from these products are often applied to the plant material through a spraying method before the plants are dried. This is what causes the plants to act upon the same brain cell receptors as THC.
Synthetic cannabinoid mixtures have been easily procured all over the United States for years. While the chemicals present in these products were long ago ruled illegal to sell, manufacturers have worked to sidestep these laws by changing the chemical formulas in their spice. K2 can cause psychological effects which mimic those of marijuana. These often include a mixture of paranoia, panic attacks, or giddiness. Physically, increased heart rate and blood pressure often occur. Synthetic cannabinoids have a tendency to be stored in the body for long periods of time.
Withdrawal effects from K2 commonly include the following symptoms:
Prolonged usage of synthetic cannabinoids has been shown to cause serious mental and physical health problems for abusers. Many people suffer from rapid heart rate, vomiting, violent behavior, or suicidal thoughts. These products are just as addictive and habit-forming as marijuana in spite of their man-made origin. Using synthetic cannabinoids can also be dangerous because of how they are procured. Because they are completely unregulated, other substances may find their way into the spice that could potentially be very harmful. This danger makes proper addiction treatment for synthetic cannabinoid addiction extremely important. Through addiction treatment, addicts can develop the healthy habits they need to garner freedom from their addiction. Speaking up about K2 use can help to remove the stigma of addiction from society and strengthen our community. By removing that stigma, we can make it easier for addicts to receive the proper addiction treatment they need. If you know someone suffering from addiction, sharing their story may help secure their freedom from addiction.
